The Cottage Bar: Delicious Irish Food With A Homey Feel

0
The Cottage Bar

For all the fancy restaurants I critique, it may be a little shocking for some folks to hear that I have a soft spot for affordable bars where everyone knows your name. When I was a teenager, I was all about the goth club life. As I got older, I started wanting to actually get to talk to people I drank with. (Novel idea, right?)

Enter the Irish pub—perhaps one of God’s greatest inventions for people who want to bond with others over dinner without appearing too hoity-toity. In Ireland, the pub is the go-to meeting place among all locals. It’s literally where everyone meets up—a major community center.

I first got introduced to Teaneck’s Cottage Bar by a coworker friend of mine. His name is Anthony, and he’s got amazing taste in both food and sci-fi books. As is tradition, I got introduced to this cute little pub by hanging out with a bunch of fellow authors. Let’s talk about why you’ll love this place.

Cozy, Homey, Down-to-Earth, And Irish

Irish pubs have a certain je ne sais quoi that makes them inviting and homey, even if your actual home looks nothing like them. Maybe it’s the darker woods they use? The warming reds? The greens and copper accents? It’s hard to say, but at the Cottage, you almost always feel more relaxed just by walking in through the door.

Finding a true Irish pub is rare, even in a foodie hotspot like North Jersey. Make no mistake about it, though. This isn’t some manufactured “faux-Ireland” vibe like what you might find at the Tilted Kilt. Nope. It’s owned and run by people straight from the Emerald Isle—complete with that wicked sense of humor that people adore.

Affordable (And Delicious) Drinks

So, I used to go here before I went sober. I still go there after my sobriety, too. Let me tell you something: they know how to serve up a good beer. If you’re going for a full Irish vibe, I’d suggest having then pour you a Guinness or a Smithwick’s. It’s good stuff.

Drinks here are cheap, and for the most part, you aren’t going to have to pay an arm and a leg. Buying a round for your gang is actually pretty easy to do here. That’s part of the charm and part of it being a real Irish pub.

OMG Irish Food!

Irish food is amazing, but only if it’s actually legit. Here, you’re going to find the hearty meals that make Ireland so famous for their bar bites. Delicious shepherd’s pie, curry fries, and bangers n’ mash are just some of the go-to’s that I have.

Seriously, their curry fries are addictive. You have been warned, you will end up coming back over and over again for their decadent curry sauce. (Actually, you can’t go wrong with anything involving potatoes here. It’s so good.)

Check Them Out!

If you’re in the Bergen County area, you’re in luck. You can get your dose of Irish deliciousness at The Cottage in Teaneck. My review? 10/10 stars!

10 Best Things to Eat In Liverpool When Relaxing

0
Liverpool, UK - May 18 2018: Liverpool Pier Head with the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building part of the Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City UNESCO World Heritage Site

No city is quite as English as Liverpool. It is much more than a monument. It is well known as the hometown of The Beatles and the famous football club. Liverpool was once a large port and a vital economic and cultural crossroads for the British Empire.

As a result of its culture, architecture, and well-developed transportation system, it is still one of the most significant locations today. Music, athletics, and tourism are all abundant and ever-present in this city.

Naturally, the thriving culinary culture that surrounds all of the aforementioned is worth checking out.

1. Starting with black pudding is a good place to start

Pudding has its origins in the British Isles, where it is still a popular dish. Pork fat or beef suet, as well as oat groats or barley groats, are among the components.

White pudding does not include pork or beef blood, but black pudding does. Pudding is distinguished from blood sausages offered in other nations by another ingredient, pennyroyal.

Actually, black pudding isn’t pudding at all. It’s a form of blood sausage prepared with lard or suet and a grain, commonly oatmeal, oat groats, or barley groats, and manufactured from pork or cow blood.

The use of herbs such as pennyroyal distinguishes British black pudding from its continental European cousins.

It’s as sturdy, gritty, and substantial as anything traditionally British, harkening back to a period when Tolkien’s beloved countryside served as the backbone of society.

2. Make chicken skewers instead of wasting time

Chicken skewers are made comprised of chopped up or ground chicken breasts, occasionally with veggies, and a variety of other ingredients depending on the recipe.

Although they are generally grilled over an open fire on a skewer, other varieties are baked or made as a stew.

With all of its commerce, trade, and quick living, Liverpool has always been a bustling city. By English standards, it’s fast enough.

This indicates that those who live simply and to the point have always preferred quick and uncomplicated eating. Chicken skewers could not have been more suitable under these circumstances.

The basics of this simple dish are always the same – small pieces of chicken and scallions grilled on a skewer.

There are many regional variations of this simple dish, some of which are more complex than others due to strong Asian influences, but the basics are always the same – small pieces of chicken and scallions grilled on a skewer. Chicken kebab is another name for this type of food.

3. To offer the taste of the Commonwealth, sausage buns were created.

A sausage roll is a puff pastry filled with sausage or minced meat “similar to a sausage” in Australia, however, what’s inside isn’t always obvious. The size and shape of species sausages, as well as the dough and filling composition, vary widely.

It’s always intriguing to see how tiny things maintain their tenacity in the face of major societal and cultural upheavals. Sausage rolls, for example, are a favourite snack in many current and former Commonwealth countries, including the United Kingdom.

Liverpool is no exception, being a historic imperial transportation and transit hub. There are several venues where you may get a sausage roll fashioned from puff pastry sheets. They’re one-of-a-kind in that they’re either egg or milk glaze.

4. Grilled chicken is about to get a lot more serious

One of the most popular chicken recipes is grilled chicken. Salads, roasted or baked vegetables, mashed potatoes, or sugar snap peas are some of the accompaniments.

Chicken is, if movies are to be believed, the flavour of everything in the world, and it is, aside from hog, the most popular meat in European countries.

Grilled chicken is, unsurprisingly, the most popular meal in the country, and particularly in Liverpool. It’s easy to cook and consume, and it doesn’t require any complicated or unusual ingredients.

That is unless you wish to add herbs, spices, or sauce to the grill to change the flavour. Some of the greatest grilled chicken in England can be found in Liverpool.

5. Asida is going to be mysterious

Asida is a sort of basic wheat or semolina porridge dish popular in Europe, some regions of Africa, and the Middle East. Wheat, barley, or other grains are used in the asida dish, along with flavourings like butter and honey.

As a port city, Liverpool is no stranger to the enigmas of the Far East, especially the delights of Arabic cuisine.

Asida’s fame is one of the outcomes of such cultural exposure. It’s an Arabic delicacy made of baked wheat flour dough lumps, often with butter or honey added.

Asida is a ceremonial meal for important events such as commemorating the birth of a child in nations such as Yemen, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Algeria, Libya, and many more. In restaurants in Liverpool, it’s an Arabic pleasure.

6. King prawns to sail away on the waves of good taste

King prawns are typically larger than other shrimp kinds, and they are also among the most popular worldwide. They have a rich taste with flesh that is delicious and medium-firm. Their tail tips are a vibrant blue hue when undercooked.

They star in a range of delectable recipes that are suitable for every occasion, from simple boiled prawn sandwiches to a party platter of crispy prawns with dipping sauces.

This one is self-evident. Sailors and chefs skilled in the preparation of fish and shellfish have long been a natural part of Liverpool’s community. The Commonwealth countries have a particular term for shrimp, which they call “prawn.”

They eat it, of course. The most intriguing species, of course, is the king prawn, which is served in restaurants as a delicacy and staple cuisine of the region, both as a side dish and as an ingredient. Prior to cooking, prawns are shelled and deveined for dishes like tempura.

7.Crumble to see if you can find something genuine

A crumble is a sweet or savoury meal that can be cooked in a variety of ways. Crumbles gained popularity in the United Kingdom during World War II when the topping served as a cost-effective alternative to pies owing to the rationing of pastry ingredients.

Crumble became popular in the United Kingdom during World War II when food and resources were few and pies were difficult to come by.

Crumble is a pie-like combination of stewed fruit, butter, cinnamon, flour, sugar, meat, vegetables, various sauces, cheeses, and other ingredients. It’s nothing spectacular; the main goal of the meal is to make you feel full, but a skilled modern cook may transform a wartime stew into a delectable combo.

8. Suppli to get a sense of the contrast

Suppli is deep-fried rice croquettes packed with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce in Italy.

Due to their similarity to an old-fashioned telephone, the snacks are also known as “suppli al telefono”: when suppli are broken into two pieces, the melted mozzarella is dragged out in a thread that joins one piece to the next.

As we near the end of the list, we should switch from a more sordidly serious type of meal to a softer, more informal type of food.

Suppli a risotto-style rice ball with tomato sauce in a French-Italian meal. It’s divided into pieces and eaten with your fingers, making a mozzarella wire that connects the various components.

It’s quick and filling, making it suitable for Liverpool’s fast-paced lifestyle. Suppi is a type of pizza that is offered with drinks at authentic pizzerias.

9. To keep it warm, make some hot chocolate

Hot chocolate, commonly referred to as hot cocoa or drinking chocolate, is a hot beverage made with melted chocolate or cocoa powder, warm milk, and frequently sugar. Whipped cream or marshmallows can be added to the hot chocolate.

Something more commonplace and well-known might be more appropriate right now.

Hot chocolate is a heated drink made with shaved chocolate, melted chocolate or cocoa powder, heated milk or water, and frequently a sweetener, in case someone hasn’t tasted it yet. It’s comforting, delicious, and energetic.

If you obtain the correct dosage, it may be tranquil and relaxing. Hot chocolate is taken seriously in Liverpool restaurants, and it is prepared with the attention and diversity that the ancient drink deserves.

10. To preserve a stiff upper lip, eat fish and chips

Fish and chips is a famous fast food dish popular in the United Kingdom and across the world. It’s a deep-fried filet of cod or haddock served with chips. Fish and chips are commonly served with mushy beans, gherkins, and onions as a side dish.

The final item on today’s list is about as representative of the United Kingdom as one can get. “Fish and chips” is a meme that has survived the development of the Internet and will always be associated with the country and its people.

On a more serious note, the popularity of the dish and its links to the country may be traced back to the rationing days of World War II.

Fish and chips were one of the few non-rationed foods available in the UK at the time. The British people continued to eat them as a token of thanks and, maybe, because they couldn’t stop themselves.

If you want to feel like an English person, Docklands Fish and Chips is an excellent location to go.

Liverpool is a serious, fast-paced city. It’s easy to understand how legends of culture and sports were formed here, as well as the country’s splendour. While taking in the sights and sounds of Liverpool, savour the local cuisine.

2. Moisturizing facial skin

The term “melon rose water” is no stranger to women even if it is only extracted from cucumbers. It doesn’t cost money to cut ½ a cucumber and blend it with 3 tablespoons of witch hazel (a solution extracted from the plant, grown a lot in North America to treat acne effectively, or recommended by a dermatologist) and 2 tablespoons of distilled water. Apply a piece of makeup cotton to the skin of your face. You can use it for a few weeks if you keep it clean in the fridge.

To improve and rejuvenate the skin, mix the cucumber juice with a few drops of lemon juice and bran powder and apply to the face. This improves and brightens the skin.

4. Remove acne and nourish hair

Mix the cucumber juice with apple vinegar, aloe juice, and tomato juice. You’ve got a great product that cleanses pores. Just mix well and lightly dot on the skin (note to avoid putting the cord in your eyes) or apply to the hair and gently massage and wash, rinse after a few minutes.

7. Skin Moisturizing Mask

Mix 1 teaspoon oatmeal with thinly chopped cucumber and 1 tablespoon honey. Allow standing at room temperature for about half an hour to thicken the mixture. The cover face within 20 minutes, then rinse.

Or if you don’t have oatmeal, you can follow the recipe: Take ½ cup chopped cucumber, ½ cup chopped avocado, 1 egg white, and 2 teaspoons powdered milk. Grind the mixture, then apply to your face and relax for 30 minutes. Rinse with water.

For mixed skins, you can use half a cucumber and 1 tablespoon of yogurt, mix and cover for about 20 minutes and then rinse.

Drinking cucumber juice is good for dry or broken hair. You can also wash your hair with cucumber juice to get super smooth, shiny, and moisturized hair.

The Best Cooking Shows of All Time, According to Chefs

0
cooking show

On cooking shows, you can watch master chefs do amazing things with food. But which of these cooking shows are the best? To answer this question, I spoke to several professional chefs to get their opinions on the very best cooking show of all time. Here’s what they had to say!

Paula Deen – ‘In the Kitchen with David’

I love David Rocco. I love him because he has so much knowledge and it’s not just about food. He takes you on a journey. He has such a warm personality too.

Cooking Shows

Buddy Valastro – ‘Cake Boss’

Cake Boss, which first aired in 2009 and is currently airing its eighth season on TLC, is based on Buddy Valastro’s real-life experience running Carlo’s Bakery.

Valastro owns a bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey that is so famous, it has been written about by The New York Times and has been featured on Throwdown with Bobby Flay.

In 2014, Buddy was named a recipient of a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Host. ‘Cake Boss’ follows him as he manages his wildly successful family business.

Bobby Flay – ‘Throwdown with Bobby Flay’

Bobby Flay’s Throwdown with Bobby Flay is a fantastic cooking show that pits Flay against professional chefs in head-to-head competitions. The show is part friendly rivalry and part exercise in ego for Flay.

In one episode, he takes on world-renowned chef Jamie Oliver in a chili cookoff (Flay won). In another, he takes on Iron Chef Mario Batali.

Each episode features three rounds: appetizer, entrée, and dessert; whichever chef dishes out dishes that best fit within their category wins round one.

Giada De Laurentiis – ‘Everyday Italian’

De Laurentiis’ show taught her millions of viewers how easy it is to make Italian food at home. She was one of Food Network’s first breakout stars thanks to her bubbly personality and authenticity.

De Laurentiis also worked in restaurant kitchens before getting into television and has written several cookbooks.

Her approachable-yet-sophisticated style may just be what Americans need today—her popularity soared after she premiered an eight-episode special series with Food Network star Mario Batali called Giada in Paradise. And for an interesting fact about De Laurentiis? She didn’t actually invent pasta primavera!

Jamie Oliver – ‘Jamie’s Kitchen’

The best cooking show has got to be Jamie Oliver’s ‘Jamie’s Kitchen’. This 13-part reality show follows a group of aspiring chefs through their first year at Jamie’s restaurant. It shows how hard it is to be a chef and what you have to go through.

Not only that but you get to see real-world problems happening with some staff members on your team which makes for great TV!

The people who don’t make it are shown not as failures but that they simply just didn’t have what it takes, because if they did then surely one person out of hundreds should’ve been able to make it right?

Ree Drummond – ‘The Pioneer Woman’

There are plenty of reasons why Ree Drummond’s cooking show The Pioneer Woman is a favorite among chefs. But it’s likely Drummond’s matter-of-fact attitude and undeniable authenticity that sets her apart from other personalities in TV kitchens.

She started her cooking channel at home after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer—she had wanted to create recipes that were healthy but also accessible for everyday cooking.

Now, she has her own magazine and several New York Times bestsellers under her belt; she even makes good-looking food on Instagram—but at its core, The Pioneer Woman is about connecting with people through food.

Alton Brown – ‘Good Eats’

When it comes to cooking shows, there’s perhaps no bigger personality in TV history than Alton Brown. ‘Good Eats’ is a timeless favorite among chefs and non-chefs alike: The show balanced science with his personal approachable style as he showed audiences how to make everything from scratch.

In addition to providing recipes for audiences and teaching cooks how food works — he also had a bit of fun doing it. The show ran for 14 seasons before ending in 2012 but is still shown in reruns today.

It’s truly one of the best cooking shows of all time and a must-watch for anyone interested in food (even if you don’t ever plan on going into professional cooking).

Guy Fieri – ‘Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives’

When it comes to famous chefs, Guy Fieri is often overlooked in discussions about the best.

But according to many high-profile culinary stars from around the country, Fieri has one of the best cooking shows on television.

When I’m flipping through channels and he’s on – I have yet to see him where I don’t stop and watch, says Chef Kevin Sbraga. It’s like watching a car wreck – you just can’t turn away!

Tyler Florence – ‘Tyler’s Ultimate’

He’s hosted Food Network shows like ‘Tyler’s Ultimate’, which is just what it sounds like: Tyler Florence taking on some of his favorite dishes from around America. The show ran for five seasons and earned Florence an Emmy nomination.

When he’s not hosting or judging on television, he owns restaurants in California that offer gourmet comfort food and seasonal cocktails. His cookbook ‘Florence at Home’ was a New York Times bestseller.

His television show Tyler’s Ultimate aired on Food Network for four seasons starting in 2009. He was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Hosting in 2010.

And because of that richness and uniqueness, no one will have any reason to hesitate but refuse an invitation to eat snails, enjoy a popular but unique culinary culture of Saigon.

THE MOST TYPICAL AND DELICIOUS MEALS FROM THE UNITED STATES

1
THE MOST TYPICAL AND DELICIOUS MEALS FROM THE UNITED STATES : hot dog

The cuisines of the United States are the result of a fusion of cuisines from around the world. Pizza, apple pie, hamburgers, and chowder are just a few examples. It may provide a slight smoked and salty flavour to your dishes according to its European save optimal. It also goes well with slices of bread, cakes, and fougasses. This fatty meal adds a few extra lipids to the body and raises the calorie level. As a result, it’s perfect for breakfast.

Sausages and Bacon

Purchasing bacon, bacon, and sausages are the first step in preparing a traditional American breakfast. You may also pick only one of these meals, but it won’t be a true American breakfast if it doesn’t include fried meat.

Bacon and bacon are unquestionably important; if you want to skip the sausage in the morning, you may, but you must not skip the bacon or the bacon fried in their own fat released in a pan.

It’s a fantastic delight, believe me.

Eggs

Eggs are another essential component of an American breakfast.

Scrambled, in the coque, or whichever you want, eggs must be present on your table for a true American breakfast. They frequently occur on the same dish when bacon is served. However, if you like to keep things separate, you are not hindered by any ban.

Scrambled eggs are a popular American breakfast item. They’re simple to make since all you have to do is crack the eggs, place them in a pot with a drop of oil, and quickly stir them until they’re done. As if you wanted to crush them or scramble them, as their name implies.

The soft-boiled ones, on the other hand, will require you to cook the egg for the inside, unlike the scrambled ones.

Wash the shell with water and baking soda, then bring the water to a boil in a saucepan and dunk the egg for 3 or 4 minutes after it begins to boil (depending on the taste, if you want a slightly less liquid egg leave it for 4 minutes). After the necessary amount of time has passed, run the egg under cold water for a few seconds before serving it with an egg cup on the table. To consume, cut from the top and eat with a spoon.

You may also make them with an ox eye if you choose. Cook the egg for a few minutes in a saucepan with a drop of oil.

Pancakes

Pancakes are another American morning staple. Soft and fluffy pancakes that, in addition to being delicious, have a beautiful aroma that pervades the entire kitchen.

Making pancakes is actually rather straightforward; the main challenge (if you can call it that) is prepping the dough.

For a family of four, you’ll need:

•          200 grams flour

•          250 grams milk

•          2 medium eggs

•          30 grams granulated sugar

•          30 grams seed oil

•          1 sachet baking powder

•          Cooking butter •

•          Electric whisk

•          Spatula

•          Non-stick pan

Pancakes are quite easy to make. To begin, separate the yolks from the egg whites and whisk the egg whites with an electric whisk. Remove from the equation.

In a separate dish, whisk together the yolks, oil, and milk. Sift the flour, baking powder, and sugar into the liquid mixture and whisk everything together with the electric beater. Then, with the assistance of a spatula, fold in the egg whites until firm.

Mix from the bottom up until all of the egg whites are included.

The tough should be creamy rather than liquid. After that, oil a non-stick pan with butter. After it has been well-cooked, pour a ladder of tough into the centre.

Allow for a few seconds of cooking before turning the pancakes with a single blow as soon as the first bubbles appear on the surface.

Continue in this manner till the conclusion of the difficulty. It must be layered and seasoned to taste.

If you don’t believe you’ll have much time, prepare the beat the day before and store it in the refrigerator.

Waffles

To make the waffles, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites and then beat the egg whites. Remove from the equation. In a saucepan, whisk together the two yolks, melted butter, sugar, and milk.

Then stir in the sifted flour, vanilla, and baking powder until well combined.

Then, using a spatula, fold in the egg whites until firm, swirling from the bottom up, and set aside for a few minutes.

Then divide a portion of the dough between the dishes and set aside for 5-6 minutes to act. Before serving, remove the dish from the oven and season to taste.

    Bagel

What Is the Best Way to Prepare an American Breakfast?

The bagel, last but not least. Although the bagel is traditionally associated with Polish cuisine, it has long ago found its way onto the breakfast or snack tables of Americans.

A bagel is a leavened dough that has been boiled and then baked. It can be seasoned with peanut butter or used to consume sausages. Bagels can be purchased ready-made or prepared at home.

·       6g salt • 205g water

·       Malt (10 g)

·        350 g of flour

To make the bagels, sift the flour and combine it with the dried yeast and malt. Start kneading with the water flush, then add the salt and knead until a uniform consistency is achieved. Form a ball and set it aside in the bowl, covered with plastic wrap, for 4 hours to rise.

Pick up the difficult after 4 hours, pour it over a flowing work area, and make a vein with your hands.

Cut the identical logs in half and roll them into balls, which you’ll set aside for 10 minutes beneath a towel. Return the balls to the oven and, using your hands, form doughnuts that will be stored in squares of parking paper and allowed to rise for another 40 minutes with the light turned on.

Place a pot of water over high heat and dunk the bagels once the water begins to boil. Cook for 20 seconds on each side, then transfer to a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 220°F and bake for around 30 minutes. You’ll need lukewarm water.

American coffee

If you opt to make the American breakfast, keep in mind that you will have to give up your favourite espresso for that morning.

The customary glass of coffee extended in water to be sipped gently is also part of the American morning.

To brew American coffee, you’ll need one coffee machine that’s designed for this sort of coffee. You will inject the mixture in this manner, and it will take care of everything.

Otherwise, you’ll have to heat the water first, then pour it into the cup with the coffee beans and vigorously swirl it.

Okay, now that you have these 10 helpful recommendations on how to create an American breakfast, you won’t have any more excuses to try it with your family at least once a month.
